Clearly working from home is a beneficial one; you don’t have to worry about gas, you can start and end whenever you want as long as you get the job done and well, you can work even in your Pjs. You can create the work environment that best works for you. The list goes on! As with the perks, comes the peeves. For some, working from home is a reason to slack off.
You are the master of your time so you can do anything you want and put off work until much later. As a result, cramming happens, deadlines aren’t met and the quality of work decreases. You see working from home is a pretty good deal, so you should take care of the opportunity and not take it for granted. Here are some dos and don’ts when working from home.
Do budget your time. Don’t assume you have forever. You see, when you work in an office where everyone around you is doing something, you’d want to be part of it all. Work is contagious that way. But when you are alone in the comfort of your house with the sweet temptation of bed at arm’s length, things are different. You have to work out a schedule that’s best for you and for the project that you are working on. A deadline is a deadline whether you are at home or in an office.

Don’t just work anywhere. Do set up a workplace. Lazing around in bed the whole day with your laptop in tow sounds almost perfect, but you should remember, your home and work space are two different entities. If you don’t separate the two, your home will not feel homey anymore. Set up a work station where you can focus and actually get some work done.

Do take a breather from time to time. Don’t shut yourself in your house. Working from home is not an excuse to alienate yourself from all forms of social interaction. Your brain needs a break and an occasional change of scenery from time to time, don’t deprive it that. After all God didn’t do everything all in one day, what makes you think you can?
Increase your work productivity even from home. There may not be bosses to breathe down your neck or QA’s to man your every move, but at the end of the day you’ll know you did a job well done.
